The GMTV LK Today show on ITV Television filmed a TV competition between three couple's and their therapists in a race to be the first to get pregnant.

One couple were being helped by an accupuncturist, one couple followed an IVF program a third couple embarked on a natural fertility nutrition program - it was the couple with the improved diet that won.

London Nutrition therapist and fertility expert Yvonne Bishop-Weston from Foods for Life guided the couple who were on a nutrition program.

Yvonne reveals that nutrition therapy is by far the most effective in most cases of infertility with claims as high as an 80% success rate.

"The best thing about natural fertility nutrition therapy is that their are no negative side effects. Some of the drugs and hormones used in assisted conception techniques can make patients feel quite ill and stressed. Not only are the odds of pregnancy much higher with nutrition therapy but the potential side effects are all positive things such as balanced weight, more energy, better skin, better mood, and a healthier baby." says Yvonne.

In cases of unexplained infertility it has been found that assessing which nutrients the body is short of and supplying these has over an 80% success rate.

Following on from their nutritional assessment tests the keys areas which the couple had to change were-

* Increase their fruit and vegetables for antioxidants to protect the genetic material

* Have wholegrain rather than refined carbohydrates for B vitamins and minerals such as zinc for sperm and egg health

* Reduce meat and dairy as the saturated fats can hinder the use of essential fats in the body which are needed for sperm and egg health and to structurally build the baby's brain and nervous system

* Increase the essential fats from algae, nuts and seeds and their oils

* Balance their blood sugar levels to support hormonal health

* Avoid caffeine and alcohol as it may reduce fertility by 50%

* Follow a supplement programme including key fertility nutrients, antioxidants, hormonal support and essential fats

Whilst on the program the woman enjoyed improved energy, skin, hair, nails and immunity as well as no more bloating or headaches. - "all examples that she is in better health and had improved fertility" commented Yvonne.

The man lost over 3 stone in weight, had a marked improvement in his energy, mood, concentration, memory and skin and had no more digestive issues such as burning and bloating. The quality of his sperm doubled taking him out of the at risk category and 12% above the acceptable level.
