Marilyn Monroe Leading Expert Outraged: Marilyn Did Not Stink!
Marilyn Monroe photographed by Douglas Kirkland in 1961, a number of months after she filmed The Misfits with Clark Gable. She does not appear dirty or unhygienic in this photo unlike how she is described in the new book on Clark Gable by David Bret. According to Douglas Kirkland’s book Marilyn Monroe was absolutely beautiful, well-kept, clean and sensational.
(Reporter7.com 2007-07-11) By Jennifer J. Dickinson Marilyn Monroe has been getting beaten up in the news by cruel headlines because of untrue rumors being circulated that her hygiene was poor. These rumors are generated by tabloid type stories such as by Lena Pepitone and Christopher Lawford. The most recent rehashing of these untrue details comes from the newest book about Clark Gable by David Bret. Mr. Bret's book indicates an affair never took place between Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe because Marilyn Monroe had very poor hygiene and Clark Gable would have never accepted her for that reason. First, Marilyn Monroe did not suffer from poor hygiene. Mr. Gable and Ms. Monroe never had an affair because their relationship was that of mutual respect and adoration, similar to that of a father and daughter. Ms. Monroe as a child actually kept a photograph of Mr. Gable with her, because she envisioned that her father, who she never met, would look like Mr. Gable.
This topic of discussion has been extremely upsetting to me and my colleagues. One of them is Mark Bellinghaus, the world's leading expert and authority on Marilyn Monroe, and the owner of the world's largest and most comprehensive collection of the late star's items. Being the owner many of her personal belongings including her clothing, there is no indication of hygiene issues with her clothing. Her clothing would be an indication of her hygiene and all of her clothing items, and in fact all of the items that he owns which once belonged to Ms. Monroe, are clean. The only dirt accumulated on the clothing in Mr. Bellinghaus' collection or odor was due to the effects of the storage of these items for over forty years, thanks to Anna Strasberg and first, Lee Strasberg, who was assigned to distribute the items after Marilyn Monroe's death and never did.

Mark Bellinghaus along with Ernest Cunningham, author of the sellout book, 'The Ultimate Marilyn-, are both outraged by the latest sensational and false stories about Marilyn Monroe. They are upset by how the news media is feeding off of these negative stories, which are found on online news sources from India to Ireland. They are not surprised however, that Mark Roesler of CMG Worldwide and Anna Strasberg of Marilyn Monroe LLC have done nothing about these repetitive attacks against the legacy of Marilyn Monroe, whom they often refer to as a 'product- rather than a person.

My opinion? Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable both would have been appalled, hurt and upset by these recent stories because of their esteemed friendship and adoration of one another.

Responsible journalists who are generating this negativity need to check their sources first. As shown on both Clark Gable's and Marilyn Monroe's Wikipedia pages, there are no notations of an affair between either: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clark_Gable and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marilyn_Monroe . This is also not mentioned on the film's Wikipedia Site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Misfits_%28film%29 .

Kay Gable, Clark Gable's widow, also invited Marilyn Monroe to the christening of their son John Clark Gable, four months following his death from a heart attack (his death was also reportedly blamed on Marilyn Monroe, but this was later debunked). Obviously if there was any question of an affair, Mrs. Gable would have never invited Ms. Monroe to this sacred family event.

The latest hygiene rumor was started by earlier books, including one by Lena Pepitone, a maid of Ms. Monroe's who also claimed to be her friend and confidante, although she wrote her book with William Stadiem with the help of an interpreter. According to Ernest Cunningham's book, this book was rated as 'tabloid trashy'exploitative and vulgar- by 'The Unabridged Marilyn-.

Christopher Lawford was another one who contributed to this story claiming his father, Peter Lawford, also rejected Marilyn Monroe for her hygiene. Once again, many reputable sources list Mr. Lawford never as a lover of Ms. Monroe's but as a close friend only.
And here comes this latest book which claims Mr. Gable to be a hygiene fanatic. Interestingly enough, Vivian Leigh complained of kissing Mr. Gable while filming 'Gone with the Wind- because of problems with his breath.

These stories only add to the sensationalism and untruths about the life of Marilyn Monroe.

To view the most dramatic scene in the movie, 'The Misfits- which starred Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe, please click the video below. Mark Bellinghaus states about this scene, "This following scene is not only the best acting moment of Marilyn Monroe's career--it certainly is one of the BEST MOVIE SCENES--EVER! If John Huston just had done some close-ups....it would have been wonderful!"

Mark Bellinghaus also states about this scene, "This is Marilyn's purest moment and most brilliant acting scene and the best scene in movie history."
