Amy Sedaris to Appear on
Shrek's Amy Sedaris also loves sprinkles.
(Reporter7.com 2007-07-06) Industry Sources: New York Times best-selling author and comedienne Sedaris is once again ready to throw the world a few curveballs. A confessional video diary? An orgasmic weight loss plan? A major international brand begins to coalesce.
New York, NY (PrInside.com) July 6, 2007 -- Amy Sedaris, the New York Times best-selling author of the light-hearted approach to cooking, "I Like You: Entertaining Under the Influence," and a star of the recently released cult film "Strangers With Candy," announced today that she will be appearing July 6th on the highly rated CBS evening entertainment show "Late Late Night with Craig Ferguson," filmed in CBS Television City in Los Angeles, California.

Sedaris is a well-known figure in international entertainment circles. In a recent profile in the Sunday Times of London, Sedaris was described as someone who likes to "live like a Girl Scout, working on activities, making crafts, being kind to animals, and being good to the community."

Coming off a high-profile assignment as the voice of Cinderella in the blockbuster international animated hit "Shrek the Third" -- part of a high-profile "posse" of Shrek Princesses that also included Amy Poehler, Cheri Oteri, and Maya Rudolph -- Sedaris says she is eager to "take on new challenges" in the field of entertainment -- and that she is secretly paving the way for a comeback of "Strangers With Candy" keystone figure Jerri Blank in a way sure to delight audiences worldwide and in Canada.

"It's all a big secret right now, so I can't really tell you anything about it at all," says Sedaris, a diminutive Greek-American beauty who jokes about once having flunked First Grade. "That said, I can tell you that it is definitely happening, you'll definitely see it, and it will definitely be scarier and more horrific than ever. Horrific -- yet touching and moving. Maybe it will even make you cry a little. And at the same time, highly intellectual. Boy, will it be intellectual! So there will something in it for the National Public Radio crowd to sink its dentures into as well. We gotta get those viewers involved too or it just won't be as much fun for me."

Concludes Sedaris: "It will be a party to which everyone is invited. It will be silly, and yet totally inclusive. Like always."

Although she has engaged in a plethora of award-winning activities throughout her life, Sedaris, age 38, is perhaps best-known for her role as "Jerri Blank" in the television series "Strangers with Candy." The show, which she co-wrote with Paul Dinello and Stephen Colbert, was based on Sedaris' impression of 1970s motivational speaker Florrie Fisher. A cult-popular "Strangers With Candy" feature-length film that premiered in the Summer of 2006 broke box-office records in its sui-generis category.

And now, says Sedaris: This.

"There were just so many people clamoring for the return of Jerri, America's best-known user, loser and abuser, and the time may finally be right for a more substantial and sustained reappearance," said Sedaris. "With the explosion of comedy and entertainment sites such as Budtv.com, JibJab.net, CollegeHumor.com, TheOnion.com, Innertube.com, and The Huffington Post, Jerri is sure to find a plethora of new meat and new adventures to keep her satisfied. Already, so much stuff is coming out of her mouth, and what she is saying even surprises me -- and I thought I knew her fairly well."

Although off the cable airwaves for several years now, "Strangers With Candy" has attracted a vivid and near-fanatical fan base -- many with multiple piercings -- who often contact Jerri Blank through her home page on the MySpace website: www.myspace.com/jerriblank69 .

"The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" is an American late-night television talk and variety show currently hosted by Craig Ferguson on CBS. It immediately follows Late Show with David Letterman and is produced by Letterman's Worldwide Pants Incorporated in CBS Television City. The program dates to 1995, and has had three permanent hosts.

Occasionally, the show is split into 15- and 45-minute segments when CBS airs a daily late night highlight show for either The Masters, other PGA Tour events with rights owned by CBS, or tennis' U.S. Open. The show then has a monologue to start, followed by sports highlights, and then the guest segments. Jackie Collins will also be a guest on July 6, as will the musical group Breaking Benjamin.

Sedaris recently made the news when it was announced that a Sedaris brand of consumer goods would be launched this year, with some products hitting the shelves as early as Fall of 2007. The Sedaris-branded products aim to capitalize on the Sedaris trademark qualities of silliness and inclusiveness. First to the marketplace will be a series of greeting cards -- "probably marketed either through American Greetings or Hallmark's Shoebox label" -- featuring various existing photographs of Sedaris in humorous poses.

"There is a photo of Amy in which she is covered in sprinkles that has already become extremely popular among a certain subset of suburban teenage boys," says Sedaris spokesperson Myron Kempelstein. "And the less said about that particular subset the better, but they do have substantial disposable income, and that's a good thing. And there will also be a set of holiday cards showing Amy holding a big baked turkey, similar to the photo on the cover of her best-selling book, 'I Like You.'"

A line of Sedaris branded holiday wrapping paper is also in the works, and that will most likely be marketed exclusively through Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, and big box retailers such as Costco, Target and Wal-mart. "There will be two basic designs," says Sedaris. "One will feature photos of Santa, the Christmas Rabbit, half-used spools of Scotch-brand tape, packs of 'AA' Energizer batteries, a few broken ornaments, those mini-liquor bottles that are America's favorite stocking stuffers -- and of course photos of me. And the other design, aimed more at the kids market, will feature photos of Santa, the Christmas Rabbit, myself of course, some holly maybe, or maybe not, bowling pins exploding in a strike or a spare, and photos of large checks written by various unmarried aunts, uncles, and sundry parties. All on a background of tens and twenties."

A mix-tape of Sedaris' favorite new music -- "played by bands that came into being only after the year 2000," says Sedaris -- has been requested by a large upscale retail chain. "We're tentatively calling it 'New Music for Old People,'" Sedaris notes. "It's great new music that these oldsters -- many of whom turned away from music entirely during the tragic music scene of the Eighties -- have never before heard." And a line of personal submersibles may also be in the works, says Sedaris: "We're looking ahead to see what new products might be needed as the effects of Global Warming become more and more pronounced."

Looking forward, Sedaris and Kempelstein look to promote the Sedaris brand in emerging marketplaces such as China, Thailand, Nesia and even Indonesia. "She's young, she's strong, she's got the legs of a mongoose, and she's got good hair," says Kempelstein. "She's willing to make the personal appearances that it will take to launch her brand in some of the needier spots of the world."

Concludes Sedaris: "If I can achieve in China what Rodney Alan Greenblat has achieved in Japan, I will feel my efforts will have been a major success. And I'm hoping to get a lot of advice on this launch from my friend and mentor Martha Stewart."

Among her other accomplishments, Sedaris was named "Face of the Year" by MSNBC.com in 1997. Among her major fans is Sarah Jessica Parker, who just announced the upcoming filming of the eagerly awaited "Sex and the City" movie. Sarah Jessica Parker has a total of seven sisters, brothers and half sisters and brothers and changed into 15 different outfits throughout the show when she hosted the MTV Movie Awards in the year 2000. Amy Sedaris has five siblings, including well-known Greek-American radio announcer David Sedaris, a recent subject of scandal.
