G K Pillai has recently been appointed as the new Chairman cum Managing Director of Heavy Engineering Corporation, Ranchi. Prior to this, Mr Pillai was the Chief Executive at US joint venture companies like Fisher Sanmar - Tyco Sanmar and was associated with Instumentation Ltd Palakkad in various capacities.

Mr G K Pillai with his Never Say Die Attitude and Hunger for the Impossible is a proud alumnus of Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (Rajasthan) where he did his B.E.(Hons) Electrical Engineering from 1968-1973.

In an exclusive message to BITS Alumni Association - BITSAA, Mr Pillai says "It would not be out of place to mention here that all my life for the last 34 years since coming out of BITS, Pilani , I have felt that the IMPRINT of BITS has been quite significant at every stage in my professional and personal career. I take pride in conveying at all forums that I AM A BITSIAN and BITS has helped me achieve all these. I also feel proud when I just saw the my alma mater's MISSION statement of Dr KK Birla, Chancellor of BITS, Pilani -- to prepare young men and women to act as leaders for the promoition of the economic and industrial development of the country and to play a creative role in service to humanity. I am fortunate that I could get the highest level of total education in BITS and this has helped me today to be in a position to play a very small role in making the Mission successful."
