SIGNIFICANT BOOST FOR CLARE'S SPORTS AND VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS
Minister Tony Killeen
(Reporter7.com 2007-05-21) Ennis, County Clare, IRELAND, 21st May 07 - Sports facilities throughout County Clare will be further improved with the announcement today that EUR194K is being allocated to sports and voluntary organisations under the 2007 Sports Capital Programme, according to Minister for Labour Affairs and Clare T.D., Mr. Tony Killeen.
Commenting on today's allocation of CLÁR top-up funding, the Minister expressed delight that 17 organisations from all over the County would receive the funds required to undertake various developments and improvement works.

"The Sports Capital Programme has played a major role in the development of sport in this County by allocating funding towards the provision of sports facilities and, in doing so, thereby assisting the fantastic efforts of both the volunteers who are the backbone of sport and also the many thousands who play sport, at whatever level", stated Minister Killeen.

He added the range of different organisations in receipt of funding reflected the passion and commitment of people in Clare to promoting recreational and sports activities.

The seventeen sports and voluntary organisations to receive top-up funding include Ennistymon Recreation & Leisure Centre (EUR3K), the Kiltannon-based Tulla Soccer Club (EUR20K), Crusheen GAA Club (EUR7K), Kilfenora Heritage Association (EUR30K), Killaloe/Ballina Tennis Club (EUR6K), Bodyke GAA Club (EUR7K), Corbally United F.C. (EUR2K), Lisdoonvarna Fáilte (EUR14K), Kilmurry/Ibrickane GAA (EUR16K), Kilrush Shamrocks Gaelic Football Club (EUR13K), Cumann Peil Cuar an Chláir (EUR18K), Lissycasey GAA Club (EUR20K), Mullagh Sports Field (EUR7K), O'Callaghan's Mills GAA Club (EUR7K), Scariff GAA Club (EUR3K), St. Pat's AFC in Kilmihil (EUR7K) and Scariff RFC (EUR14K).

"Today's announcement provides clear evidence of the Government's continuing commitment to the development of sporting facilities. The top-up funding of EUR194K complements the EUR970K granted under the Sports Capital Programme to the respective organisations earlier this year. The funds will enable a total value of works amounting to almost EUR1,164,000 to be carried out", Minister Killeen concluded.
